Kwaku Bediako inducted into Corporate Hall of Fame, named Most Respected CEO

Having received over three million nominations from the Ghanaian public, The Business Executive Limited shortlisted about 500 CEOs for the public voting exercise covering various industry sectors. Per the statistics, Kwaku Bediako obtained more votes than other nominees in the Downstream Oil/Gas category. The Ghana Industry CEO Awards is aimed at identifying and publicly recognizing the most outstanding chief executives in corporate Ghana across a wide range of sectors. Chase Logistics Limited receives 3 ISO certifications

Chase Logistics Limited (CLL), a leading privately-owned petroleum depot in Ghana, has been awarded three certificates from the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO). At a ceremony held at the Tema Tank Farm premises in Tema, the certificates were presented by Business Development and Sales Manager for West Africa at Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Emmanuel Siaw. The certificates were ISO 45001:2018 – for CLL’s implementation of sound Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 14001:2015 for its Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 9001:2015 – for its implementation of Quality Management Systems. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Siaw congratulated Chase Logistics Ltd. on its achievement of the triple ISO certifications and urged Management to remain committed to providing the needed resources and training to ensure the standards are maintained. He added that “This should not be seen as an achievement only on paper but an opportunity for continual improvement of your management systems. The certification also affirms that Chase Logistics Ltd (Tema Tank Farm Depot) operates within globally accepted standards relating to Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, and Quality Management Systems. Yaw Okyere, Group HR Manager of CH Group, the mother company of TTF and Chase Logistics, applauded the efforts of Management and Staff of CLL – Tema Tank Farm Depot for the team spirit, dedication, and hard work invested to achieve this remarkable feat. NPA certifies 3,468 drivers, vehicles to distribute petroleum products

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) licensed 3,468 bulk road vehicles (BRVs) and drivers between January and June to enable them to haul and distribute petroleum products across the country. The Director in charge of Inspection and Monitoring at the NPA, Ms Esther Anku, explained that the measure was in line with efforts by the authority to reduce incidents of road accidents among BRV drivers which had become a worrying phenomenon and, in some cases, led to devastating consequences. Ms Anku was speaking at a safety workshop and clinic organised for BRV drivers, owners and operators by Chase Logistics, operators of the Tema Tank Farm (TTF) in the Tema Industrial Area, last Friday. The programme, dubbed: “Tema Tank Farm’s BRV Clinic”, was on the theme: “We mean safety: All accidents are preventable” and sensitised stakeholders in the petroleum transportation sector to risk reduction. It was attended by members of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GNPTDU) and other affiliate bodies. Ms Anku said the NPA was liaising with BRV driver unions to train and license all their members, after which only certified drivers would be permitted to drive petroleum product haulage vehicles. Previously, BRV drivers only had DVLA required licences for driving trucks. The NPA’s new certification regime, however, has introduced modules, which include knowledge about how to handle petroleum products, enhanced safety and security lessons, as well as defensive driving. Illegalities Ms Anku said the licensing regime was also to provide a framework for proper monitoring by the NPA, especially of illegal activities such as siphoning, smuggling and related offences. As a follow up to the new policy, she said, four BRV inspection facilities had been licensed by the authority, in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to undertake bi-annual inspection of BRVs prior to the granting of full licences by the NPA. “Recognising that the training of BRV drivers in defensive mechanism and safe handling of petroleum products is key to the prevention of accidents, the NPA, together with the DVLA and the Road Safety Limited (RSL), have developed modules for training and certification of all BRV drivers in the industry and we expect the training of the first batch to commence by the third quarter of 2019,” she said. Ms Anku expressed optimism that industry players in the sector would collaborate and help address the safety deficiencies in the sector. Energy Ministry The Head of Safety at the Ministry of Energy, Mr Addo Twum, at his turn, said following the completion of work on a health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) manual which provided guidelines for safety operating procedures, the ministry was seeking to adequately sensitise players to the need to prevent accidents. He emphasised that safety was a collective responsibility, hence the need for players to build a positive safety culture, provide training support and equip personnel with the right tools to ensure safer operations. “Success or failure ultimately depends on personnel, hence individuals ought to comply with the requirements associated with loading, transportation and unloading of petroleum products,” Mr Twum stressed. Chase Logistics The Managing Director of Chase Logistics, Mr Bartholomew Darko, for his part, said the company saw the need to create a platform for all players in the chain to collaborate and significantly reduce risk in their operations. “Given the crucial role our tanker drivers play and the systematic and un-systematic risks in their operations, it is important that from time to time we create a platform that will discuss our operations and workable preventive measures that can be brought to bear to safely contribute to the development of the country,” he said. He, however, expressed regret at the condition of the roads linking the area which hosted many oil and gas installations, as well as electricity generating facilities, saying all the companies in the enclave rendered essential services to the country. Mr Darko noted that whereas the government generated significant revenue and taxes from the enclave, owing to the industries located in the area, the condition of the roads was one that could compromise safety. “It is regrettable to note that while our vehicles are certified as road worthy, our roads await certification to be worthy of the vehicles that ply them,” he complained, and expressed the hope that a petition sent to the Minister of Roads in respect of that would receive the necessary attention. CH Foundation donates $100K to Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund

The CH Foundation, an independent non-profit organisation, has supported the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund with $100,000. Their donation is to help complete the construction of Ghana’s first-ever infectious disease isolation and treatment facility. The CH Foundation is the charitable arm of the CH Group, an indigenous Ghanaian-owned holding company engaged in the petroleum, real estate, agribusiness and waste management industries. The Chief Operating Officer of the CH Group, Cynthia Darko Acquaye, led the CH Foundation team to make the donation to the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund. She was accompanied to the project site by Chairman of the CH Group, Kwaku Bediako, Dr. Dan Amoah, Executive Director of CH Group, Kingsley Sarpong, Managing Director of Chase Petroleum Ghana Limited, Fuseina Abu, Managing Director of Gold Key Properties, Bartholomew Darko, Managing Director of Tema Tank Farm Limited and Yaw Okyere, HR Director of CH Group. Madam Acquaye stated the company and its charitable arm recognise the importance of the centre and the contributions it would undoubtedly make to Ghana’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the treatment and containment of other infectious diseases. “Today we are going through one pandemic. We also know that our resources are limited in this country and so, to have the private sector take this initiative, to build a 100-bed infectious disease hospital, we thought that this was a noble cause that we needed to support,” Madam Acquaye said. “Ghana’s economy can only fully flourish when among other things, health concerns have been addressed and effective remedies are put in place to prevent the spread of infectious diseases,” she added. Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, Dr. Justice Yankson expressed gratitude to the CH Group for their donation towards the completion of the 100-bed infectious disease isolation and treatment facility, located at the Ga East Hospital in Accra. The 100-bed infectious disease isolation and treatment facility located at the is expected to be ready for use by the end of June. It will cater for critically ill Covid-19 patients and, in subsequent years, be used to treat other infectious diseases. It is an initiative of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, which was set up by some Ghanaian business executives in response to the clarion call from President Akufo-Addo for a concerted national effort to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, the Fund launched a crowdfunding initiative to raise money to complete its flagship project. With a few weeks to the official opening of the facility for use, the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund says it is offering as many Ghanaians with an opportunity with the #10GhanaChallenge to be part of history by contributing as little as ¢10 each towards the first infectious diseases treatment facility in Ghana. The #10GhanaChallenge is mostly a social media campaign where after making a donation of ¢10, each donor is urged to produce a short video clip to announce their contribution and then nominate some friends to each to contribute ¢10 towards the project. “You can donate by dialling the short code 71825*219# on all networks and even though this is for you to donate just ¢10 you can feel free to donate as much as you want,” Managing Trustee of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund Senyo Hosi said. “Then after you’ve made your donation, you tag some of your friends on social media and challenge them to donate and share in the pride you feel.” Source: Joy Online

Chase Logistics holds safety workshop

The management and staff of Chase Logistics, the owner of Tema Tank Farms (TTF) and a member of the CH Group, has organized its maiden BRV safety clinic and workshop in Tema. The theme for the event was ‘We mean safety, All accidents are preventable’. The objective of the program is to create a safety awareness culture through constant education and sensitization with the National Petroleum Authority and other National safety Policies and Procedures. The event also hopes to provide a platform that helps to identify risks in the duties of BRV drivers and sensitize BRV owners and drivers on legal and regulatory requirements and compliance expectations of the National Petroleum Authority, Ghana National Fire Service, Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority and GRA-Customs Division. Mr. Bartholomew Darko, the Managing Director of Chase Logistics said the company hopes to do its part in improving health, safety and security on both people and the environment. Tema Tank Farm donates to Kpone Traditional Council, District Police

The Management of Tema Tank Farm Limited has donated food relief items to the Kpone Traditional Council and Kpone District Police as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in supporting the vulnerable communities and police. The donation made to the Kpone Traditional Council comprised of 40 bags of rice, assorted tin fish and tin tomatoes for distribution to the vulnerable and needy within the traditional area. The food relief items donated to the Kpone District Police consisted of 15 bags of rice, assorted tin fish and 10 boxes of tin tomatoes for distribution among the police. The Tema Tank Farm Ltd’s Managing Director Mr Bartholomew Darko presenting the items explained that this initiative aims at appreciating the peaceful co-existence within the community and to cushion residents of the impact of the lockdown. The representatives of the Traditional Council received the items on behalf of the Council and Mr Alex Nii Anang, the Secretary to the Council expressed the council’s appreciation for the kind gesture of TTF among other previous assistances to the community and assured the Management of TTF that the items would reach the people to help reduce the burden on them in those difficult times. The Kpone District Police Commander, DSP Seth Tay, receiving the items also thanked the Company (TTF) for the donation and emphasised the commitment of the police to continue working hard to guarantee the security of the area for businesses to go about their duties for the ultimate development of the country. CH Group supports Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund

A group of private sector businesses including CH Group Limited have come together to launch the Ghana Private Sector COVID-19 Fund to raise a minimum of 100 million Ghana Cedis to support government’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This is in spite of the fact that government itself has set aside a stimulus package of One billion cedis to assist some categories of businesses affected by the situation. Already, banks operating in the country have assisted government’s efforts with ten million cedis. The 10 trustees of the Ghana Private Sector COVID-19 Fund, including the CEO of Tropical Cable and Conductor, Tony Oteng Gyasi, Chairman of Fidelity Bank, Edward Effah, CEO of Multimedia Group, Kwasi Twum, and Executive Chairman of Kleeve and Tove, Senyo Hosi among others, are contributing 100,000 cedis each as seed money to the fund. Speaking at the launch of the initiative, the Chairman of Fidelity Bank Ghana, Edward Effah, said “As a result of everything going on around us, a number of Ghanaian businesses have come together through conversations and pondering what can we do to assist, and we came to the conclusion that we should all come together and establish the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund to complement our government’s efforts. I want to emphasize that we are apolitical as a group, Ghana is facing a crisis, and we’ve come together with the sole aim of contributing what we can towards this fight. This is a fight we believe the government of Ghana cannot fight alone. Already the pandemic is affecting Government revenues”. According to Mr. Edward Effah, all the trustees have “committed to contribute a 100,000 each personally, which comes to a million cedis, and to also use their resources to raise a million cedis each, so we will have a seed fund of eleven million cedis to start. The purpose of the fund is to raise a minimum of a 100 million cedis from individuals and corporates to complement the initial effort by the trustees to support the government of Ghana’s fight against COVID-19.” The trustees are Mr. Anthony Oteng Gyasi, Chairman of Tropical Cables and Conductor Limited, Mr. Edward Effah, Chairman, Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited, Mr. Kwaku Bediako, Founder and Director of CH Group, and Mr. John Taylor, CEO, Woodfields Energy Resources Limited. The rest are Mr. Omane Frimpong, Chairman, Wilkins Engineering Limited, Mr. Kwame Ofosu Bamfo, Managing Director, Bamson Group, Mr. Kwabena Adjei, Group Chairman, Kasapreko, Mr. Thomas Svanikier, CEO, Svani Group, Mr. Kwasi Twum, CEO of Multimedia Group, and Mr. Senyo Kwasi Hosi, Executive Chairman, Kleeve and Tove Limited, who’s also CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, CBOD. Public contribution to The Fund Mr. Effah says they want the public to contribute towards the fund, hence their decision to set up the fund in a way that there will be maximum transparency and accountability. “Consequently, we have appointed Standlib as the fund administrator. They will be responsible for administering the fund. Fidelity bank as the fund custodian; so the fund would be held with the bank; and other banks are welcome to open custody accounts and the trustees will appoint additional banks to also contribute toward this effort.” “We have also appointed or nominated Ernst &Young as the auditor of the fund; so all contributors will be assured that the money will be used for the purpose for which the fund has been set up for; and the accounts would be audited. Other support, transparency and accountability He commended some partners who have offered their support to the Fund. “In addition, I would like to thank a number of partners who have all agreed to support the fund on a pro-bono basis and other partners are welcome to join the effort. We have Dream oval, who are the technology partners and who are developing the website of the fund; and also all the collection of technology so that anybody can pay from any source or a variety of sources.” “Global Media Alliance has offered to provide all the media support pro-bono, we look forward to welcoming other custodian banks and we have Bella, providing legal services, also on a pro-bono basis. We expect the fund website to be up in the next two days so that public individuals and cooperation will be able to contribute towards the fund through a variety of payments channels. All donations will be published to the website unless the donor requests anonymity.” He also added that all disbursements will also be published on the website to ensure transparency. He says the Fund will work with government to ensure that they offer the exact support needed by the state in the COVID-19 fight. “Again, we are aware of a number of competing initiatives, but the government or Ghana needs to marshal all the resources it can gather so there is no competition. And others who have made direct donations are welcome, if other groups also want to have their own initiative, its welcome. However, we decided to come together because when we began the conversations; we found that amongst us as Ghanaian businesses, everybody wanted to donate personal protective equipment or water or something or the other; and if it’s not coordinated; the donations will not be useful because most people would want to go to 37 or Korle Bu.” He added that, “There are many needs outside of Accra for example, and so it’s important that we work with the government, we prioritize what is needed; and we also share how we are going to tackle it. Otherwise we will get everybody taking one item and we have the excess of one item and the shortage of another. As much as possible; we will publish a lot of information on the website on what is needed maybe per region; what is needed by the Ghana Medical Association, what is needed among different hospitals, where the incidences are, where the cases are, so that we can target them; and can all contribute towards

Goldkey Properties to complete Cantonments City in 2023

Goldkey Properties, one of Ghana’s leading property developer, says it is poised to complete its flagship Cantonments City project before the end of the year 2023. The over $50 million housing project comprises two residential blocks of apartments, eight commercial office buildings, retail malls, hotels, restaurants and cafes. The mini city project, which is on 10 acres will have a traffic light and a recreational park to attract international organisations who will need head offices, country offices and branches. The Executive Director of CH Group Company Limited, Mrs Cynthia Acquaye, who disclosed this at an Open House ceremony in Accra, said the purpose of the project was to attract investors into the country and contribute effectively to the growth of the economy. The ceremony, which brought together investors, contractors, various estate developers and housing agents, was used to showcase the prices of its new luxury townhouses located in Accra. Some of the new luxury townhouses include the ‘Meadow View’, a five-detached house, the ‘Pinnacle Place’, a nine-detached and semi-detached house, ‘Odis Court’, made of six town houses, ‘Asafu Agyei’s Place’, ‘The Laurels’ and the ‘Kumi’s Court’. Mrs Acquaye said the Cantonments City project would encourage pedestrian activity that would ensure vibrancy and sustainability, adding that “with over 43,000sqm of commercial space to let, retail giants as well as business entities from all types of industries would have the comfort to trade.” She added that “the Cantonments City is the ideal location for a luxury hotel chain brand. The architectural components of the hotel includes landscaped water courts and well-stocked rooftop poolside decks. The restaurants will be manned by world-class chefs knowledgeable in both local and international cuisines that will provide guests with a home-away-from-home experience and ensure they spend both day and night in the City”. The Managing Director of GoldKey properties, Madam Fuseina Abu, said plans were far advanced to launch a new project known as the ‘Hammond Court, which would have 12 residential apartments with a free WIFI and smart lighting systems in all rooms. According to her, the aim of the company was to provide quality and affordable housing to suit the needs of both upper and middle-income earners. Madam Abu said the company had the resource capacity and management ability to consistently provide a premium service within the Ghanaian urban landscape.

CH Group Foundation donates buses to Achimota and Mfantsipim Schools

CH Group Foundation, the CSR wing of the CH Group, has shown its commitment to supporting quality education, by donating buses to Achimota and Mfantsipim Schools. The schools each received a 30-seater 2020 Toyota Coaster Bus from the Foundation. Speaking at the handing over ceremony at Cantonments City in Accra, Chief Operating Officer, CH Group, Cynthia Darko Acquaye, said the donation is part of the CH Group’s agenda to assist in transforming Ghana into a hub of world class education in the West African sub region. She said “at the CH Group, we acknowledge that dominating the world economy requires the requisite human resource and this is anchored firmly on education. That is why we have taken this initiative to support the education sector with the aim of transforming the country into a world class education hub.” “If the efforts of our forebearers will mean much in the future, we need to invest in the children of today and those of tomorrow. That is why the quality of education is among the biggest perturbations of Africa. As the black star of Africa, an inspirer of hope for the continent, we believe we are well placed to lead an education revolution for the West African sub region by building a hub for World Class education. We believe that this can become a reality if we all work together and play our parts.” The representatives from the Old Students Associations of both Achimota and Mfantsipim Schools, expressed their gratitude to the CH Group Foundation for the gesture and assured that the buses will be put to great use.
